Geocache Description:

This is the ninth in my series of hides near fire lookout towers. Here you will find Bone Point Lookout, 4527', in the Umatilla National Forest.

Bone Point has been used as an observation site since the 1920's. Constructed in 1961, the present 30' steel tower is used during emergencies, primarily for extreme fire danger and after lightning storms.

From here you have an excellent view of Potamus Point and the North Fork of the John Day River drainage to the west, Bridge Creek Flats to the northeast, and up to Desolation Butte to the southeast.

You are seeking an ammo box with a logbook, writing instruments and trading items. Please check in and around the hiding spot before you reach in, there could be snakes lurking.

Access is off Highway 395 northwest of Dale, taking the 3963 Road south (there is a road called "Bone Point Road" just north of Meadowbrook Summit to the south, but it won't get you here). Follow the main track uphill to the 060 spur at 44 58.351 119 01.462 (the road sign is hard to see until you've made the turn). Take the spur to the summit. Note: the last mile can be quite muddy when wet and quite dusty when dry, and is steep/rocky the last 300'. The 060 Road is seasonally closed to motorized vehicles from December 1 thru April 30 each year.
