Damn
Freddo’s Up the Numbered Creek cache series.
Our
forefathers could be pretty boring people when they really tried.
Having named the things they found after themselves, their wives,
their children, their patrons, their monarchs, feast days and the
remaining days of the week, they then started on the look of the
natural features. Brown Hill,
Green Hill, Black
Hill, Red Hill, Mount
Lofty. If all else failed they then fell back to
numbers.

Fifth Creek has its headwaters at the aptly named Monty Cute
Heights. The creek then flows through Athelstone and Newton to the
junction with the Torrens River at the cache location.
Fifth Creek is an example of a more natural creek structure
within Adelaide area. Historial notes describe the journey up the
creek as follows, “ Here a dark ravine is threaded, past frowning
cliffs and jutting crags. Beyond Montacute, the road becomes
steeper, but he who presses on to the summit will be amply
rewarded. The view down into the valley of the Torrens is wild and
grand beyond description. Crags, hills, and hillocks are heaped in
utter confusion.”
Caches on Fifth Creek include The Slot, Wadmore Waddles and some
mystery thing about Foxes. The location of this cache was selected
many months ago. It seems surprising that the location has remained
cache free long enough for Freddo to place a cache.
Australians seem to be in need of some more creative natural
feature naming. In your logs we would ask you to come up with an
improved name for the creek.
