Frensham Little Pond is one of two lakes in Surrey which were
originally made to provide a water supply for a local Bishop.
Our cache called “Ickle Pond” became exposed when some clearing
work took place around Fensham Little Pond. The “Ickle Pond” cache
was originally placed to compliment our other nearby cache ‘Big
Pond’ however due to the clearing work “Ickle Pond” has had to be
archived, so this new cache “Another Ickle Pond” is to replaced
it.
Both Big and Little Ponds are situated within Frensham Common,
which consists of roughly 1000 acres of attractive countryside,
midway between Farnham and Hindhead on either side of the A287.
The National Trust owns the site, but Waverley Borough Council
manages most of the land. The Common comprises a large area of
heathland, together with some coniferous and mixed woodland, and
two large ponds, known as Frensham Great and Little Ponds.
Please keep to the paths, this is an area of Special Scientific
Interest and is home to some rare species including the Dartford
Warbler which are ground nesting birds.
Please be careful when replacing the cache and make sure it is
well covered, as this area is very popular with dog walkers and
visitors. There is a bench nearby where you can take your time to
write your log and admire the views.
