Suicide Rock Book Exchange Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

KenFelt: This location has been muggled too many times in the past. I really liked the location, but keeping it maintained has become a burden. I originally took pride in having one of the biggest containers. However, each time I have to replace it with a new file box, and fill it with books. I give up. This cache will now be deleted. KF

Geocache Description:

It's an easy walk from the parking lot, and about one city block along the trail. Then you will crawl over some big rocks to get to the cache.
This would be a very nice walk to take just before sunset, and watch the city lights come up. At any time, it is a great place to stand on an overlook and view the Salt Lake Valley.

This cache is along the trail to "SUICIDE ROCK". The trail begins on the east side of Foothill Drive, just before it becomes a freeway entrance. (don't get caught in the freeway). You can park in a business parking lot on the east side, just barely before it becomes freeway. Please respect the parking lot signs, there are parking stalls facing east that do not say "xxx PARKING ONLY".
Parking lot coordinates: N40 43.187 W111 48.598
The History: Suicide Rock is in the middle of the gully where I-80 enters Parley's Canyon and splits with I-215. An old tale has it that an Indian maiden loved someone, and when she realized he did not love her, she threw herself off the rock.
When traveling eastbound into the canyon, you have probably seen the rock with its colorful graffiti. The trail follows the edge of the canyon for 1/4 mile (could this part of the trail be on Parley Pratt's original toll road?? At the bridge, you can see a faint road wide enough for a wagon continuing up the canyon.) The trail crosses a bridge over the top of the freeway, then down into the gully to a closeup view of Suicide Rock. If you follow the trail beyond Suicide Rock, you will climb back up to the southeast side of the canyon and end up on Wasatch Boulevard.
The cache is a paperback novel book exchange. Bring a book you have finished, and exchange it with a book out of the cache. If you don't have a book to exchange, you could still take one you like, and leave 50 cents or a dollar in the zip-lock bag with the log. The next person who brings a book and doesn't find one they like can exchange their book for the "donation" (honor system).
Please tell me the name of the book you left when you log your find on the internet. If it sounds good, I will run up there and grab it for myself! (smile) KF
