At this site you can learn a little history!
This cache is near the site of what was an antebellum house of worship, that was used as a hospital during the Battle of Cross Keys.
The Dunkers did not belive in taking another mans life or holding slaves. Dunkers and other conscienctious objectors were excused from service if they confirmed their church membership and paid a fine or a fee.
The surrounding land has been farmed since the 18th century. During the war Brethern farmers refused to sell their produce to the army agents. This made them in danger of having their goods confiscated.
Dunkers helped make the Shenandoah Valley the "breadbasket of the Confederacy."
At this location you will find a map of the historical local area that was burned during the war.
Please make sure cache is replaced the way you found it!
