Geocache Description:

Located toward the south end of Lake Lenore, cache is on top of a small hill. Parking is right off of Hwy 17, with a short walk to the cache. There isn't much of a trail, but the brush isn't thick. The last stretch before reaching the cache site is quite steep, but very managable for cachers over 5 years of age. Do be mindful of pets and young cachers, as a couple sides of the hill are vertical drops.

Atop this hill you will find a couple odd looking metal posts set in concrete. There is one more below the cliff. I have heard a couple stories as to why these are there. One account was that during the time Moses Lake Airport was Larson Airforce Base, ground troops would bring anti-aircraft weapons/machine guns up to these posts and practice by shooting at banners that were towed behind planes flying up and down the canyon. The other story is that a local gentleman decided he was going to do what he could during WWII. He built this spot, took his guns up here, and said that "if they fly over, I will do what I can to stop them."

I am not so sure about the second story, the first seems more likely, but the history is interesting. I have been told by friends, who have been in the area a long time, that they have heard of brass ammunition casings being found here.

The container is a 2" black pvc pipe, 6" to 8" long. Plenty of room for small trade items. Please re-hide the container as well as it was hidden when you arrived. Please also replace any other rocks that you move.
