An quick cache on the Salmo Creston Pass (Hwy 3)
This cache replace the Sheep Crossing Cache that was burnt up in a tragic semi truck accident.
The Salmo Creston has some impressive wildlife. The Big Horn Sheep like to hang out on this side of the summit. The winter feeding station is located just down the highway from this cache. There are many large rams with big curly horns. In the summer enjoy seeing the females with their young, cute, fuzzy babies.
The sheep do block traffic on the highway. Please do not feed them or try to pet them. They may seem pretty friendly (and curious) but they are still wild animals. Take plenty of photos and enjoy the experience. Sheep may be seen just down from the cache site during the winter and spring.
The cache is hidden at a large pullout on the highway (the side you drive down). I was able to drive my truck up to the cache site, but if you have a low clearance vehicle or trailer, you will want to walk. There is a road that takes you up a steep slope. From the top level you should be able to find the cache easily. Good luck and have fun!
