Fairie Ring Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

ChipnDonna: 've got an achy (but not breaky) hip that will severely limit my ability to maintain this cache. So I cleaned it out and I'm archiving the cache. Hopefully someone else will place one in this magical spot.

Geocache Description:

What better place to see a Leprechaun than in an enchanted glen beside a fairy ring containing sacred stones and a magical ring of trees?

This spot reminded me of a fairie (also "fairy" or "faerie") ring in western Ireland called Dún Na Sí ("Fort of the Fairies" in Irish). That ring was pointed out to us by our tour guide. I asked how one knows such a place is a faerie ring. He said, "If you're Irish you know." Well, I'm 3/4 Irish, so I'm 75% sure that what I found in Los Trancos Preserve is indeed a Fairie Ring.

In case you didn't know, fairies are of diminutive size, rarely exceeding two feet in height; they live also in society, their ordinary abode being the interior of the mounds. They can make themselves visible and invisible, and assume any forms they please. The popular belief in Ireland is that the Fairies are a portion of the fallen angels, who, being less guilty than the rest, were not driven to hell, but were suffered to dwell on earth. They are supposed to be very uneasy respecting their condition after the final judgement. One must be very careful around a fairie ring so as not to disturb the little fellows.

I was very careful in placing the "Fairie Ring" water bottle-sized geocache at the edge of the ring, and you should also take great care not to enter the ring. It's very bad luck and you won't find the cache there anyway!

The closest official parking to the Fairie Ring cache is located at N 37° 19.989 W 122° 10.558. A map of the Los Trancos Preserve can be downloaded at (visit link) but it may not show the newly aligned Page Mill Trail that lies very close to this Fairie Ring.
