Geocache Description:

Another "Crown Point Quickie"!!

However ... This one may be a bit trickier! But still a quick way to add another cute Smiley!

This is a "log only - BYOP" container with a built-in tool for container extraction.

But PLEASE put it back the same way so the next finder can use it!

This cache is on the main road to the Champlain Bridge from Crown Point, N.Y. to Chimney Point, VT.
New York and Vermont share ownership of this 2,190 long bridge, the first to join NY and Vermont across Lake Champlain. It was built with a span 95 ft. high to accomodate the tall smokestacks of the paddlewheel steamers which were popular at that time (Like the "Ticonderoga" in Shelburne Museum).

In just two years after it was opened in 1929, this new, quick and easy crossing caused the demise of many small horse-powered and sail-ferries which until then had provided the only direct way across the lake.

In 1987, the 50 cent bridge toll was dropped and the toll booths were removed. The Bridge Commission realized that the toll revenues were insufficient to pay the toll-takers’ salaries.
In 2011, the 76 year old bridge was replaced with a new span with the same graceful shape and beautiful overall appearance as the original. Great Job!!

BTW ... There are great little museums and tons of history on both sides of the Bridge.
On the New York side there is an Adirondack Visitors Center and the Crown Point State Historic Site ... which includes the ruins of two British fortresses and the Champlain Memorial Lighthouse.

In Vermont, just across the Bridge, there is the Chimney Point Historical Site, where according to a local (but apocryphal) legend, Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys sat (drank) in the tavern until they consumed enough "courage" to attack and capture the British Forts at Crown Point and Ticonderoga.

Both sites are well worth the visit!

This is a concealed Micro P&G placed at the entrance to a local well-known business establishment. It is on private property, placed with the approval of the owner.

The only restrictions are:

  1. PLEASE DON'T PARK on the main road.
  2. PLEASE DON'T BLOCK the driveway. There is plenty of parking nearby.
  3. Oh ... and don't come too late ( like after 10:00 pm ).

There is little chance of encountering random geo-muggles, however the establishment nearby may have a "looker" or two.
Use appropriate stealth, PLEASE DON'T BEND ANYTHING, put the cache container back the "right way out" and leave the area just like you found it.

Thanks!!
