Geocache Description:

My family has been summering in Raymond since the 50's, so we've seen various local food joints come and go. I remember an ice cream place called Penniwit that was located a few miles west on old 101 (now 27) that has long since disappeared. It must have been the late 70's or early 80's when it closed. I miss that place.

Luckily, new haunts arose to take the place of those lost. The Pines, once located across the street, was one of those. This cache is dedicated to it.

(I should check this, but I think) The Pines opened sometime in the mid 90's as a seafood joint. The prices were so extraordinarily good that even our frugal family couldn't resist the fried clams and seafood chowder. And the portions were HUGE! It was great deal, and the food was good too.

Sometime in the late 90's, the place suddenly switched to Italian. You can imagine my disappointment. It remained that way for a year or two, but then one summer the old Pines was back! The prices are a little higher, but the taste was there. It was like a dream come true.

The Pines is now gone (again), having been closed sometime in late 2018. I've not yet tried the new place, so I can't speak for it, but give a shout out in your log on how it was.

Riverside Park is a relatively new addition to Raymond. The mill site where this cache is located has been here a long time and has always been a great fishing spot, but the park proper (most of which is actually located on the other side of the river from the cache site) didn't exist till the early 2000's. It has some great trails and other interesting recreational opportunities (plus a cache or two).

This cache is hidden 'New Hampshire Style': in a rock wall or pile. I've coined this term (as far as I know) after caches found during runs with poosu over the last few years seem to weigh heavily toward this type of hide. This rock pile is bigger than the normal rock wall you see almost everywhere in the woods of New Hampshire and New England, however, so a clue is provided to help you out. Part of 'New Hampshire Style' includes the heavy tree cover doing a number on your GPS. poosu and I have averaged the coords over various visits to the location, so they should get you pretty close. Of course, it's still a large rock pile...

As a standard disclaimer, I do not recommend caching at night due to an increase in law enforcement vigilance after dark coupled with the inherently suspicious-looking nature of geocaching. The Raymond Recreation Department has approved cache placements in this park.
