BICESTER BIMBLE Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

thehoomer: Thanks to the 2 lucky ducks for the report that due to scheduled works to the church, the cache may well be compromised. As previously stated though, we were intending to archive this cache anyway and visited today to remove the container.
Hopefully, someone will come along and create a new multicache for Bicester town. We have enjoyed reading all the logs over the past 10 years, thank you to all who visited.
Bye bye Bimble.

Geocache Description:

This historical multicache taking no more than an hour has been granted permission for the final hide. The trail is on level footways, so should be suitable for all. There are quite a few car parks nearby but the suggested parking is given at the top of the page. It isn't crucial in which order you complete the clues but if you complete them in the given order, you will not have to re-trace your steps.

From the car park, you need to make your way to: N51° 53. 995’ W001° 09.178’ This public house became known by its celestial name in: 18E4.

Next go to: N51° 53. 963’ W001° 09.145’ How many letters are in the second half of the 2 word name of this watering hole? This will give you 'D'

Now take a stroll to N51° 53. 893’ W001° 09.068’ The building that is now a chemists shop was formally the White Lion pub. In the upper storey (either side of the old pub sign bracket), count the number of windows (not panes) this will give you C.

A short spurt will take you to N51° 53. 869’ W001° 09.037’ Look to the rooftops to find a weather vane. This weather vane has been here for many years and is shown in an engraving from 1822. Add the number of letters in the animals name to the number of points on the compass, this will give you 'B' The building that is occupied by the post office used to be The Bear public house.

A further short walk to N51° 53. 741’ W001° 08.944’ will take you in the region of the next clue. Stand on the pavement with your back to 'Tall Trees' and look across the road at the Hermitage building. Take the lower of the two front door numbers, this will give you 'F'. Before you go, observe the small conical roof attached to the left of the Hermitage, this was the 18th Century Bicester lock-up, in use until 1857.

Take a further short walk to N51° 53. 666’ W001° 09.128’ How many letters are in the full name of this former ecclesiastical building? Take this number and divide it by 2, this will give you G.

The final part of the puzzle can be found at N51° 53. 713’ W001° 09.221’ Take a seat with Albert Clifton and find the date, 19A3. (Due to redevelopment work, this clue is currently unavailable. We hope that in time, it will become available again. In the mean time......A=7. ) This Dovecot has been here since the 17th Century but most likely stands on the site of an earlier one that served Bicester Priory.

Using the information and clues you have discovered, calculate the following sum in the time honoured way, to give you the co ordinates for the cache.

N 51° 53 ADE W 001° 09 FG (B-C)
