East Lothian Woodland Walks 7b: Saltoun Westings Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Jack Aubrey: It's a mystery that the final cache has become so difficult to find after years of no problems! Whatever the reason, there are now plenty of other caches in the wood and it's time this trio left the scene and stopped annoying people!

Geocache Description:

This cache can be logged separately but also contains the westings of the co-ordinates for the main Saltoun Big Wood cache (GCX3H5). The northings are in Woodland Walks 7a, (GCX6TC)which is in "another part of the forest".

Park at N55.53.433 W002.51.440 as listed on the main cache page. There are marked trails through the wood and you can find all three caches using these paths.

The cache is in a cleared area between conifer and beech woods. Nearby (although not on the path), at around N55.53.045 W002.50.750 there are the remains of a Bronze Age ditch and bank enclosure originally oval in shape and about 95 metres along the main axis. It was probably a stock pen.

The westings are pasted inside the lid of the cache box.
