This cache is dedicated to the locally rare Wild Service Tree, Sorbus torminalis.
Said to be an indicator of ancient woodland, an alternative name is Chequers Tree. At one time an alcoholic drink was made from the fruits and this may have given the name of "The Chequers" to many pubs, some of which have a wild service tree in their grounds.
At the cache location, which is located in the Northlands Wood area of One Tree Hill Country Park, there are several of these lovely trees, a beautiful sight in autumn with their spectacular colours.
Parking can be found at N 51 32.895, E 00 26.782 where there is an information point, picnic area and toilet facilities. The car park is open from 8.00am till dusk.
Alternative parking can be found at N 51 32.768, E 00 26.792 further down the hill.
