Geocache Description:


This cache is located in Brompton Cemetery on Old Brompton Road. This cemetery was established in 1836 and open in 1840 after the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. After the Battle the population of London increased from 1 million to over 2.6 million. The over population led to inadequate sanitary conditions and disease. The existing burial grounds were unable to cope and Parliament authorised the establiment of 7 new cemeteries. Brompton Cemetery was one of those seven and is now the resting place of over 35,000 dearly departed.
