in our disclaimer.
Col des Bush Valley, our first stash, overlooks the beautiful bush
valley of Alpine, AZ. It’s a medium hike if you start from the IAF
CDBV-IAF-01 (hint section below), or for the folks that want to do
a little more bush whacking start somewhere else. I’m sure you can
come up with some other starting points on your own but IAF will
ensure that you enter the public land without crossing private
property (avoiding crabby Patty).
Would love to see PICTURES!
On your hike to Col D’Bush Valley (not named after the
president) you should see lots of wildlife in the morning nd
evening to include elk, deer, turkey, and other various creatures
of the forest. You most likely won’t see any other humans since
this area doesn’t have a HWY running through it. The cache is in a
safe area for kids with no steep drops or white water crossings.
There are some man made stone piles in the area not associated with
this cache. You will find various trinkets.
Initial Approach Fixes (IAF)
- CDBV-IAF-01 -- N 33 - 52.503 / W 109 09.920, 8202’ MSL
(+- 10 ft.)
This IAP has easy and safe parking right off the HWY. Walk up to
the WPT and you will be looking right at the forest service sign
that says this little dirt road is closed for soil conservation (or
something similar) so leave the motor vehicle here.
The Col des Bush Valley name got it’s Tour de France flair as it
is partially to pay tribute to tour and Lance Armstrong who had
many epic days on the Tour de France.
Definitions
Many of the terms that I use come from flying since I’m a flying
nerd but can apply here and it keeps it fun for me.
- IAF – Initial Approach Fix. Aviators refer to these
points on an approach charts where it indicates the beginning of a
instrument approach procedure to an airport. I use IAPs to direct
you into the cache area to avoid private property, monster
obstacles or some other no no area. If needed I’ll give you an
additional enroute fix.
.
- MAP -- Missed approach point. Aviators refer to this
point as the place to abort the landing (or miss the approach). It
is normally the beginning of the runway for many non-precision
approaches. I use this term to mean the destination.
- MSL – Height above the sea. I use my GPS for this and
though I have WAAS this could be more than 100 ft off as far as I
know.
- WPT – Way Point. The destination or other waypoint that
I am referring to.
