Be careful - Watch out for trains when crossing the tracks. The rail line is still used several times a day. This cemetery is still growing with the Teegarden family donating more land as needed. The cache is not located at a grave so please do not disturb the gravestones or graves. If you have young children please have them be careful around the headstones. The very old ones are not always stable and fall over easily. I don't want anyone hurt.
Teegarden Cemetery was originally a family cemetery and the first graves were in 1851. In 1883 the Teegarden Cemetery Association was started by Thomas and Elizabeth Teegarden. They donated the land and have added additional land to this still growing cemetery. Five-grave lots sold for $3.00 in the late 1800's and early 1900's. In 1935, the price was raised to $10.00. Since the beginning, a group of individuals who have loved ones buried in the cemetery have taken care of the cemetery. Many years ago they volunteered time to clear brush, mow the grass, sell plots, and raise money. They got donated silos, and then cemented the sides of a water ravine with the silos, greatly improving it's appearance and safety. It's still holding up well and it's very interesting to look at. Almost put the cache there! They also surveyed and fenced the grounds sometime in 1980. They eventually hired a caretaker who cares for the cemetery on a regular basis. The group continues to work at raising money to meet the ongoing costs.
The cache is a 2" x 3" lock and lock container painted camo. Please cover well when rehiding.
