CANADA'S
CAPITAL CACHE

Building for a new
Canada
Standing here in 1860, you would have heard
the sound of hammers and the creak of winches from across the river
as construction began on Canada's Parliament Buildings. As
recently as 1857, Canadians had been embroiled in a raging debate
over the choice of a permanent capital. When Queen Victoria
finally choose Ottawa - a ramshackle lumber town in the middle of
nowhere - politicians howled for reversal of the decision.
The Governor General wrote glumly of exile to the wilderness.
An American journalist joked that invaders would get lost in the
forest trying to find Canada's Capital. In fact, Ottawa was a
brilliant choice, standing at the confluence of English and French
cultures.
Today, Ottawa is a thriving
international technology and business centre and world class
tourism and convention destination. Ottawa is also rich in
culture and heritage with its many national institutions,
parklands, waterways and historic architecture.

Canada's Capital
Cache
A nice,
scenic place to stop and take a break when crossing the Alexandra
Bridge between Ottawa, Ontario and Hull, Quebec (do
not stop your vehicle on the bridge). Bring your
camera as there are great views of the Parliament Buildings, the
Rideau Canal locks, the Ottawa River, and the Museum of
Civilization. While in the area, make sure to check out the
many other great downtown urban caches that allow you to explore
Ottawa's great history.
The cache is
a magnetized Altoids can and can be accessed easily, but please use
caution as this is a highly trafficked area. When placed the
cache contained a logbook, Geocaching manifesto, pencil, Canada
flag pin, Maple Leaf pin, lady bug charm, boy charm, Team Tyrrell
heart, breast cancer awareness quarter, mini carabineer, and a
yellow stone.
Please ensure
that the cache is not visible from any angle and is replaced
exactly how you retrieved it! The cache is meant to be placed
just up and within the steel corner piece - not too far please,
just out of sight of muggles. Thank you!
