Small camoed hanging pill bottle in a rock garden
Located in a rock garden at North Park Village Nature Center, a 45-acre site staffed by the Chicago Park District and a host of volunteers, offers prairies, oak savannas, hiking paths and wetlands amidst native wildlife. The rock garden is open from May through November between the hours of 10 am to 7 pm seven days a week. Do NOT try looking for the cache at any other time.
The Nature Center hosts a popular Maple Syrup Festival in February as well as a Harvest Festival in the Fall.
Standing on the site of former greenhouses serving MTS patients, Community Gardens are available to the public for growing vegetables and flowers during the season. The Gardens are part of a 75 year conservation easement to protect the open space at North Park Village.
Over 700 units of attractive low-income senior and handicapped housing dot the landscape of North Park Village. Managed by the Elderly Housing Development and Operations Corporation, the Senate Apartments, Prete Apartments and a host of other sites are located in rehabbed and new construction buildings throughout the village.
North Park Village Recycling Center, adjacent to the Gymnastics Center, opened in 1985 to process glass, paper, plastic, books and magazines. The Recycling Center is open to the public.
A formal rock garden, nestled northeast of the Administration building, was originally designed as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project in 1933, and rebuilt in 2002 with a working fountain, landscaping, seating and floral displays
