Geocache Description:

This cache may be somewhat difficult to get to. Cape Race is located at the end of a 20 kilometre dirt road that begins at Portugal Cove South. This road is rough in places and one should take care when driving down and up over "The Drook" hill. The Drook is approximately 6 kilometres in from Portugal Cove South. Cape Race is approximately 2.5 hours drive from St. John's along the Irish Loop. This dirt road would not be passable during winter or early spring.(except by skidoo or ATV).

I visit Cape Race a number of times each year. I am a radio ham, VO1VZ, and at the Cape, you will find the Myrick Communications Museum. A Marconi communications station was built at the Cape and it was the station that received the distress call from the Titanic in 1912. The Myrick Communications Museum is a replica of the Marconi station and houses amateur radio station VO1MCE. During summer, the museum is open and offers a wealth of information about the Cape and also offers tours to the top of Cape Race lighthouse.

Approximately 15 kilometres from Portugal Cove South, you can take a trail to Mistaken Point and view the fossils. Mistaken Point is a protected area meaning you can look but not touch.

The cache is inside a large plastic bottle with a screw top. The original contents of the cache are:
