In 115's Shadow Multi-Cache
JUNGLE J: This cache has been archived so that the area in which it is placed can better serve the caching community. Two caches have created and submitted where this one previously existed, one of them a Travel Bug & Geocoin Depot. The new "In 115's Shadow Again" will be a new cache in a new hiding place as well. This cache is in the Wilmot Creek Crown Lands, snuggled in the bush near Wilmot Creek just North of Highway 2 and East of Highway 115/35.
Parking for the cache is free at N 43 54.776, W 078 36.547, in a small lot just north off Highway 2.
Note the plaque describing Samuel Wilmot's fish hatchery, the first in Ontario. It was built in 1866 on this site, and he began breeding salmon. In 1868 the Federal government converted it into a full-scale fish hatchery, and by 1878 it produced one and a half million salmon a year.
There are fishermen's trails throughout the area. This is where the fishermen go to fish. These trails overgrow in summer, but are usually clear enough to follow. If the vegetation is wet, so are you. Long pants, good footwear, and a little DEET come in handy. This cache not recommended in the early spring.
On, around and over the trail note the "Dog Strangling Vine", Vincetoxicum nigrum, an invasive weed from the milkweed family. It climbs and grows into almost impenetrable masses, reproducing quickly by seeds and rhizomes. A picture of it is included. This stuff growns up tree trunks and covers the walking paths. Watch out for it. It might trip you up and get you while you are down! While you are caching in the summer and fall, it will be mostly goldenrod, nettle, briers, and jewelweed that rub elbows with you, while milkweed, burdock, and plantain grow thick at the lower levels.
In case you wish to cross the Wilmot with dry feet, there is a bridge just past the microcache at N 43 54.912,
W 078 36.689.
Find the micro then read from it the redirect to the final cache. Co-ordinates are visible through the micro walls so don't open it please.
Final cache is large enough for tradeables and travel bugs.
