The cache is located close to the viewing area at Lower Joffre
Lake.
"See that glacier over there?"
My famous last words before embarking on our first backpacking trip
to Upper Joffre Lake. Little did I know that we would be camping
within mere feet of that glacier, next to a beautiful turqouise
lake and run-off waterfall.
There are three lakes at Joffre: Upper, Middle and Lower. From the
air they look like three beautiful jems in a crown of mountain
peaks and glaciers. The park itself offers hiking, fishing,
wildlife viewing, photo oppertunities and mountaineering. In the
summer there is an incredible floral dislpay and in the winter the
main trail is a snowshoer's paradise.
If you are attempting the hike to Upper Lake, please keep in
mind it is a rough 5.5km hike, part of which is a boulder field
traverse. It is not a walk in the park, study footwear and the "10
Essentials of Hiking" are an absolute MUST.
