Geocache Description:

The waypoints below bring you near the pedestrian or drive in gate of the bowling green. See below for details. Once in the gate, your geosenses should lead you north of the active green to find the cache, no bushwacking needed, watch for muggles(not the bowlers)they know the cache is there, worry about everyone else...like people walking to and from the apartment complex next door. Not a hard cache to find.

Two ways to get into the Forest Hills Bowling Green, and find the cache:

1. Go during regular lawn bowling hours. The waypoint listed for the Drive In Gate will get you to the bowling green located on Forest Hills Blvd. near Terrace Rd. If arriving by foot walk in through the open front car-gate(faces Forest Hills Blvd.) or pull your car in from the Forest Hills Boulevard entrance and drive through the gate to park where you see other cars (this parking lot is actually a currently unused bowling green). Introduce yourself as a geocacher...find your cache, do your thing, and if you like, be introduced to lawn bowling by the very friendly members of the club. They have everything you need there to try your hand at lawn bowling. The club usually bowls on Sundays at 2pm, Wednesdays at 10am, Saturdays at 10am and several weeknights informally at about 6:30-7pm for an hour or so (Weds. and Thursday evenings)but then again sometimes not. If you go on a Wednesday morning you may even run into fellow geocachers bowling a few ends.

2. Go at whatever decent time you like as a guest of the club, letting yourself in (the anti-social visit). The Pedestrian Gate waypoint will bring you right close to a pedestrian gate. The gate is not obvious, lots of vines covering the fences around it. There is a combination lock on the gate, the combination is xxxx. If you choose to let yourself in you must remember to keep the gate locked, (lock it behind you even, as you enter) make sure the combination wheel is spun before you close the combination when you lock up, test it to make sure it is secure when you leave...you get the idea.

About the game:
Lawn bowling is a simple game. The goal is to roll the bowl next to the small white target jack. Skill and thought are required, but beginners can enjoy it from their very first day.

The bowls are asymmetrical. This causes a natural arc to the path. That is the fun and challenge of bowling.

Games are played between teams of one, two, three and four people.

It is a polite game. A good shot is complimented, no matter which team made it.

It is a social game. Being with people of similar interests is part of the games attraction.

History
Lawn Bowling is an old game. Although it is related to Bocce, it has a unique past. There are greens in England which have been in use since the 17th century.

The Forest Hills Lawn Bowling Club began in 1934 as the East Cleveland Lawn Bowling Club on a green at Strathmore and Euclid. It moved to its present location in Forest Hill Park when the park opened in 1941.
