Geocache Description:

Highland Cemetery is located on the top of a hill overlooking Menomonie, Cedar Falls and Boyceville on a clear day. The single lane up to the cemetery is not open during the winter. But, you could hike up the hill if you were so inclined. Once to the top of the hill, the cemetery is small, the ground is fairly flat and the view is fantastic.

Highland Cemetery is a small cemetery originally belonging to the Johnson family. There are only about 150 graves up on the hill with only a few recent additions.

Earliest graves: Carolina Lagerstadt 1823-1889, Mrs. Ole Johnson 1890, Helmer Lien 1893, Hans Larson 1897, Claes F Anderson 1823-1897, Child Sheriff 1898, Annie Hay 1898, Amelia Johnson 1859-1898, Benjamin Bert 1899, August Johnson 1837-1900, Mary Johnson 1828-1901. Another interesting headstone belongs to George Johnson who was a WWII POW according to his headstone.

Parking is available at the top of the hill, and there is room to turn around also. Please watch young children as some of the old headstones are unstable and could topple over.

Stealth may be required if the farm fields are being worked. The cache is a camo match safe. It is inside the fence so there is no need to cross the fence. Please "wedge" the cache container back in it's location before leaving.

I've added a bit of wire and camo tape so that the cache can be attached to a tree branch. It is in the original spot, but now it has a leash to keep it from falling out of the tree.
