Geocache Description:

Special Note: As you travel to this cemetery please be aware that there are horse drawn wagons and buggys being used around here. Be especially careful on the sharp curves as one may be right around the corner. Also be respectful as you pass them, slow down.

Pleasant Valley Cemetery is a fantastic old cemetery. The Louisville Church was founded in 1888 and still stands today. It looks like it's a private residence at this time, but it has been well cared for. Easy walking and off road parking. There are two places to park, I wouldn't recommend the spot between the two trees unless you have a small car.

Pleasant Valley Cemetery is well kept and the oldest one I've found to date. There are graves of several folks born during the 1700's. What was life here like back then? I think the older headstones are in the best overall condition considering their age. Very few seem to have broken over the years, probably due to the remote location.

Please watch young children as some of the old headstones are unstable and could topple over.

Interesting headstones: the folks born in the 1700's: Rev William Massee died 2/1858, he was 76 years old which means he was born in 1782. Mary C Massee died 7/1867 at 72 years of age. She was born in 1795. Joshua S Steves died 12/1873 at 86 years of age. He was born in 1787. Jane Morley was born in England 12/22/1796 and died 10/8/1871.

Check out Israel Barnom's headstone "PVT in New York Mil War of 1812". He died in 1892. He must have been born in the 1700's too. I think this is the first headstone with the "War of 1812" on it that I've seen.

Phebe Doughty died 2/4/1886 at 74 years of age. She was born in 1812. Daniel Smith died 1880 at 79 years of age. His wife Mary died in 1884 at 83 years of age. There are many, many more neat headstones.

The cache is located along the boundary line and you do not need to cross the fence. It is not at a grave or by a headstone. It is a camo colored match safe. Please take time to cover it well before leaving. Stealth may be required if the folks in the old church are working their beautiful yard.
