Geocache Description:

Two Part multi with a 2L clip top hidden in a tree 1m above ground.

Merredin 'The Garden Town in the Heart of the Wheat-belt'.
Located on the Great Eastern Highway 259 km east of Perth and 314 m above sea level, Merredin is the most substantial settlement of the Central Wheat Belt. It is strategically located and, as the town promotion says, it likes to think of itself as 'The Garden Town in the Heart of the Wheat-belt'.

In 1940 Australia prepared for an expected invasion from the north. The Central and Eastern Wheatbelt played a significant, but now little recognised role, in preparing for the Country's defense. There are many physical reminders of this in the structures left behind by the Army and RAAF scattered in paddocks and towns in the area. Merredin and Nungarin both have wonderful Military Museums that preserve this heritage and are well worth visiting. For more information about the Railway Museum or the Merredin and Nungarin Military Museums contact the Merredin & Districts Visitor Centre on (08)90411666.

The posted coordinates will place you in front of a big rock with a plaque within a playground in Merredin. BBQ and toilets available here.
(Hence the name, where you are and what kids make at playgrounds, well mine do)

Update 12/10/2007
As this cache has been muggled twice in its present location and another suitable hide can not be found close by I have amalgamated this with a second geocache I had planned for Merredin to incorporate some historical sites. (Golden Pipeline & WW2)

First Location Puzzle
Using the information on the plaque you can work out the location of another sign approx 1.77Km away.

Z= the ?th dinner meeting.

S31 2X.XXX E 118 1Y.YYY

XXXX = ((Z+68)/4)*0.061
YYYY = (Z/100)*1.4982

Second Location Puzzle
Gather the following information from the sign to get your final cordinates to the cache approx 140m away.

i = The year the structure you are standing on was built.
ii = The year of the diagram supplied by the Battye Library
On the board, a mining engineer is quoted.
iii = The number of letters in his first name.
iv = The number of letters in his surname.
v = ? tour.
vi = The year of this tour.

S31 2A.BCD E118 1E.FGH

A = v*2
B = iii
C = i - ii
D = iv
EFGH = (( ii + vi )*2)-15

and just to add one final twist due to the last muggling: subtract the following from the decimals.
South - 12 & East - 7
