This cache has been archived.

JerseyGirl & Bruno: It's over a month now, so I guess it's time for this one to be laid to rest. Thanks to all who supported this event...we had a great time. Maybe next year?

Geocache Description:

UPDATE: At the request of the Forest Service the event site has been moved to the South Loop Hunt Camp, a location accessible to all. This is about .4 mile down the Forest Road from SR 471.

Join us at 9:00 AM for a continental breakfast in the Richloam Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest. All contributions of breakfast baked goods are welcome. We'll be discussing the permitting of caches in the wilderness areas surrounding the event site, and providing appropriate contact information for the various land managers involved.

Bring your summertime caching adventure stories to share or discuss which caches you will be attempting when the weather cools in a month or two or three. New cachers should be able to pick up some geocaching tips/tricks from the seasoned cachers. Also, bring any travel bugs or geocoins you have been holding on to that need a place to be dropped off. And you'll probably want to bring chairs, as there is no seating at the event site.

After breakfast, those who've a mind to will find plenty of caches to hunt. For those who like to hike, there is a nice series of hiking caches located off SR 471 & Thrasher Ridge and SR471 & the Florida Trail trailhead at the Withlachoochee River. The infamous Cableshot Easy series is also nearby, just watch out for Easy-36 right Paint?

If you're ready for a fun weekend of caching, camping, jeeping and fellowship, we've reserved the nearest campground exclusively for this event, and the campsites are free. The campground is located right on the Withlacoochee River. There are picnic tables and a fire ring, and canoes and kayaks can be launched right from the campground area. There will be plenty of room for all, but we will have to give you a permit to display, so please note in your log if you intend to camp. The campsites will be available for set up on Friday afternoon, and are reserved through Sunday. Although non-potable water is available for washing, the campsite is primitive and a long way from civilization so bring all you need.

The event site itself is located just off a main Forest road and there will be no problem reaching it in any vehicle. Depending on the weather, there may be some accessibility issues for some of the caches. A 4X4 vehicle may come in handy, but many, if not all the caches should be findable with 2WD and a short hike.

A map and hunt dates for the Richloam Track for 2006-2007 are located here. ALL cachers are welcome to participate in the event whether or not they camp or own jeeps.

September 3rd Update: The Forest is in great shape and so are the caches. I'd like to get all the camping permits sent out this weekend. Please make sure I have your private email address, as they cannot be sent through GC. You'll need to print out the permit and display it on your dashboard while on the campground property. YOU DO NOT NEED A PERMIT FOR THE EVENT SITE...ONLY FOR THE CAMPGROUND.

Here's a question for those who are camping out Saturday night...do we want to have a potluck dinner at the campground? I don't want to be too structured, so I'm leaving this decision up to you all...please post a note, or email me privately with your preference.
