Geocache Description:

Cachen ligger med udsigt over Krystalsøen på Hammerknuden, Bornholm.

The cache is placed with a good view over Krystalsøen (the Crystal Lake) on Hammerknuden, Bornholm.

On Hammerknuden is a barren plateau with the remains of a number of small private quarries. People worked here in all kinds of weather, baking sun or biting frost, breaking stones for a meager outcome. You can still see large piles of broken stones around the area. No wonder this plateau was called Siberia by the locals!

Rainwater filled the old quarries and the lake thus formed is now known as the 'Crystal Lake'.

If you go to this area from the lighthouse on Hammeren, the terrain rating is 1½. From the harbour "Hammerhavn", the terrain rating is 3, but you are awarded a magnificant view towards Hammershus, Opalsøen, Hammersøen and the characteristic knoll 'Amtmanden', which this year (2006) is closed to protect rare birds.
