Tibbs Run Reservoir Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

WVangler: I hate to have to archive a 19 year old cache, but with GeoWoodstock coming the property manager (myself) needs some space to do some upgraded geocaches. This one needs to go. If I had the ability to archive some that were hidden on the property with dubious permission I would probably do those first. They are ok, but shooting for a higher quality experience for a Botanic Garden.

Geocache Description:

This replaces the original Tibbs Run Reservoir Cache. Those who visited the old one can find this one and receive another smiley face. Parking is found just off Tyrone Road at the West Virginia Botanic Garden 1.8 miles from Route 7. It is a little longer hike and includes a water hazard that should probably be avoided during high water. So we have given it a slightly higher difficulty rating. Located along the Tibbs Crossing Trail, this is a corner of West Virginia's Garden that few hike. The Meditation Garden is one of the older features that hearken to a time when the Garden was first created and there weren't many destinations to see. The Garden began in 2000 and was truly a labor of love by volunteers. Having no endowment or financial commitment from any public sources, it was created and grown by community visionaries. This cache was adopted by the Garden's third executive director in August of 2022 (WVangler). I have the great pleasure of working in this magical place and helping it grow to new heights—including upgrading the visitor experience through all means including geocaching. A botanic garden is not really a park. This is a museum of plants, managed by a nonprofit organization with no affiliation with WVU or public agency. We add thousands of plants to our collections each year and have added new facilities such as The Terrace at Tibbs Run, that Mountaineers can be proud to call their Garden. You might find some ancient carvings nearby that were possibly here long before the first white settlers ever entered this part of the country. Or possibly were carved by your cache-owner. You decide.
