Take Hwy. 57 out of Priest River. A few miles out of town turn right on to the penninsula rd. From this road you can drive all the way to coolin at priest lake. The first stage of this cache will take you to a small river known as east river. From there it is a nice ride through the flats, eventually ending at a spot on the priest river.
The jack pine flats is just what it sounds like, a large area of flat land tucked in amongst the selkirks. It has some great views of the surrounding mountains including gisbourne(looking glass), baldy, alasta, mt casey, and sundance. It is approximately 5 miles long and 6 from where it starts to coolin.
A great way to get a good look at it is from the looking glass or sundance caches. From the lookouts you can see all of the flats and whitetail butte, the lone mountain standing in the flats.
The final leg of the cache takes you to a beautiful spot on the priest river and one of my favorite places to camp. It also is a great spot to put in or take out of the river if you are planning a float trip with rafts, tubes, or kayaks. There are many people who camp down here so even though I placed the cache slightly away from the campsite be carefull to watch for muggles.The cache is one of your small olive ammo containers, and contains all sort of small trinkets.
