This is a cache that won't take very long to find. But allow enough time to take the trails, and learn a little of the history of this place. Alcove Spring was a stop on the Oregon Trail. There are wagon swales to view, A spring, carvings of pioneers from 1840's, and many other things.
There is a self guided, clearly marked, walking trail around the whole area.
This is where the pioneers crossed the Blue River. The crossing is named Independence. To the north is the camp ground. Some had to stay too long, others could get right across depending on how high the water was.
Please be sure to explore both sides of the road.
