Geocache Description:

The Plenty River rises at the southern edge of the Great Dividing Range north of Whittlesea, and flows south into the Yarra River near Heidelberg.

The title ‘river’ is a bit of a misnomer, as you will see at the cache site. Plenty Creek would be more like it! It’s a rather sad imitation of a river at the Yarra River junction, although the area is quite pretty. As those who have done my ‘On the Flat’ (GCX06Y) will know the area is a significant birdwatching location in Melbourne. For a long time there have been regularly a couple of Tawny Frogmouths roosting about 10 metres up in a tree that overhangs the south-eastern corner of the bridge at the above coordinates. They were there when I was setting up the cache. In summer Kingfishers live just up the creek - listen for their high-pitched barking. There is at least one other cache on the Plenty River/Creek – ‘An Attractive Bridge O’er Plenty’ (GCMTT5) by EuDes, but don’t try to get there directly from here unless you like major challenges! There are also a couple of nearby caches, but unless you have a boat they are several kilometres away. If you come by car you will have a little bit of a walk to the cache area, along a fully sealed track. On a reasonable day it’s a lovely stroll/wheel/cycle. If you come by boat you will have a different pleasure! The cache is a 1.5 litre clip-top container painted grey, and should be easy to find
