Geocache Description:

Who is Flydad and why a tribute?

FlydadWell, Flydad is my very good geocaching friend from Washington DC, US.

We met each other on e-mail after I found and logged one of his caches, Li'l Dyrholaey 2 (GCW1X4) placed out on Iceland earlier this summer.

Flydad and I e-mailed each other several times the week I came home from Iceland, because I was the first person to log a find on that cache on the web. We had a lot of Icelandic caching to talk about. I had also looked for another Flydad cache near the airport, but ended up with DNF.

Ok, after a couple of days he started to be very interested in Norway and Oslo. He had never been "over there" before and he was excited about all the caches around and in Oslo city. So, then, suddenly, on Thursday the same week, he decided to come for a visit. A visit? We talked some more on e-mail about this idea and then, just out of the blue, he was standing in front of me on Gardermoen Airport (OSL) on Saturday morning. Uhps, I was very much exited, because I didn't know anything about him, except for the interest in Geocaching.

Flydad came over to me with a broad smile on his face and was ready for the thrill of caching in Norway :-) We went out of the airport and started at once to look for a cache near by OSL. We found it! Flydad's first cache in Norway, found 15 min after arriving. Well done!

We had a very nice day in Oslo with a lot of caching around. In the afternoon we visited my family in our summer house on Nesodden and had a nice dinner there. Before we went to bed that night, back at my house, we also had the time to place out a Flydad cache in Oslo. The Tveita Trog (GCX98X).

To prove that I was first to log GCW1X4 on Iceland he gave me a beautiful coin/plaque from National Reconnaissance Office, US.

The next morning, I drove him back to the airport and he went back home to the US again.

Woha, what a man...!!!

I think I will remember this visit from The States for ever. Since then we have been talking daily on e-mail and now he has helped me a lot with my first geocache.

Thank you Flydad.
You are just a little bit crazy and just a little bit obsessed... ;-)

The cache

The cache is located in the very beautiful area in Oslo called Godlia, very close to my home where Flydad stayed over night. The hiding place is of course a secret, but it is close to houses and gardens and a little forest, so look out for local muggles. However, the nearest neighbor, who you will see if he is outside his house, is cacher friendly. He knows about the cache and has observed many of you hunters. He has even helped out with some hints. Flydad told me not to tell to much about the cache. Not even that there is no need for searching near or in the neighbors garden. It is possible to find the cache without being to much exposed, but the closest neighbor might see you if he is at home. If you find it, place it back exactly as it was and remember to bring your own pen for the log. The cache has no room for trades, but that is classified information I think...
