"It is essentially impossible to walk through the thickest chaparral"

The expedition to find the Manzanita Park highest point:
A couple years ago, I, the Birdman, set out on a mission to find the highest point of the park. This was before I had a gps or decent topographic map. It looked like this one location was it, but after walking to what is now the trail to the "Prunetucky" cache, it looks like you are possibly higher. Unconvinced by what the map said, I headed out to this brushy area. I loaded up with my bushwhacking clothing and headed off to this obscure location with a small game trail. This took me to a small tree. I climbed into the tree, looked around, and realized this had to be the parks highpoint.
Just a week ago, I headed back to the spot. Now, the game trail is more open and less brushy, and tolerable to the everyday person.
To find this cache, you too will have to go through some brush, and long sleeves and long pants are recommended. Also, I spotted 1 Poison Oak plant, which was pretty out of the way. Nonetheless- do come prepared.
This game trail actually reminds me of what some of the trails of the Ventana Wilderness are starting to look like.
The tree you are heading to is a shrubby oak tree that stands out from several highpoints. You will leave all the main trails from behind the water tank, beginning with moderate bush-dodging, then either pushing through, or crawling under, some brush. You may at some point ask yourself, where did this little trail go?
If you keep on track (just follow your GPS) you'll come to a clearing, and it will bring you to the tree.
Your gps may have a little trouble at this point, so here's a good hint-
Climb into the tree, and you should have Fremonts Peak to your left, Mt Toro in front of you, and Moss Landing to your right. The cache is under the manzanita about 1-2 meters in front of you.
Depending on how people react to this cache, I may lower the terrain to a 3, or perhaps raise it to a 4. Nevertheless, don't be intimidated though, its a pretty cool spot when you get there. The small trail is only about 150 feet long to the tree.
CONGRATULATIONS WININI- FTF. And in shorts too- ouch.
Dont try this one in your lederhosen!
