Geocache Description:

Big Pond/Pond Cove (Brier Island Series)

A series of caches inspired by Islander1988's Ironbound Series.

The Pond Cove area of Brier Island provides an important ecosystem for the island's native birds and animals. Lying protected behind the sandy barrier beach is Big (and Little) Pond. These shallow, brackish ponds receive fresh water from upland drainage and are periodically flooded with salt water, making it a unique and fragile environment. Just to the east of Big Pond is a small dune system. It is also home to rare and endangered flowers, so please be careful as you explore. Bring a writing stick.

Please rehide the cache as it was found.

The cache is situated on land protected by the Nature Conservancy of Canada, in the Brier Island Nature Preserve. This area contains many complex and delicate forest, meadow, pond, beach, and bog ecosystems. These serve as habitat for several rare species of migratory birds and plants, including the extremely rare and endangered Eastern Mountain Avens. The Nature Conservancy of Canada is a national non-profit land conservation organization and they encourage you to enjoy the Nature Preserve, but be respectful of its protected status by staying near the trails and respecting all signage. If you would like more information on the Brier Island Nature Preserve, please contact our Nova Scotia office: TF: 902-405-4334 nova.scotia@natureconservancy.ca

Please do not leave personal items in this cache.
