Geocache Description:

“INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST”

The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just two years, the quest has grown to over four hundred and eighty caches hidden in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Ontario, and the hiders have grown to over twenty-five cacher teams, most of which are comprised of Dogs and their Humans. Over 1,000 cacher teams have logged over 12,000 finds.

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #493

"Mount Conway"

Hidden away on this "tall" Indiana peak in Blue River Township is Kessinger Cemetery. This Henry County burial ground is the final resting spot of 21 Hoosier pioneers including Virginia Militia Revolutionary War Soldier, Richard Conway, and Miles Conway, Sr., a soldier in the War of 1812.

The burials here all occurred between 1839 and 1899 and include Richard Conway's five children ranging in age from 4 days, 7months, 9 years, 13 years and 61 years of age and two of his wives.

Richard Conway originally started this cemetery in the early 1840s with the burial of his first wife Polly Watson Conway. Many of the stones have been broken off or are missing, but the very active cemetery association in this county has recently cleaned the remaining stones.

The centerpiece of this cemetery is the site of the last burial made here. A wrought iron fence encloses the grave site of Catherine Conway, (Miles' wife) who passed away at the impressive age of 93 years old. Her husband lived to the ripe old age of 89.
