Located less
than 20km north of Wubin is the Jibberding Rest Area. It used
to be the social recreation site for the surrounding area and the
remnants of the tennis courts and cricket pitch can still be found
(albeit not that exciting).

It is not
high on our list of great camping areas - its not that sort of spot
- so don't go and head out with the kids to find this magic camping
place (Adventure Out - Congellin, Boyagin Rock and Martin's Tank on
the other hand are great spots to camp). This place is the
ideal stop-over for any trips via the Great Northern
Highway.
Wubin
is about 3-4 hours drive from Perth. I like Jibberding for
two reasons. Firstly it is the target destination for any
trips heading north. You can leave the city after work and be
here by 10pm. A great chance to stop driving and rest up
before a big drive the next day. Secondly, for me its where
the "country" ends and the bush begins. As you leave
Jibberding to head north, the traditional wheat and sheep farming
lands disappear - later replaced by more station-like operations
such as Mt Gibson and White Wells.
Conversely coming home,
its a good spot to stop and have a cuppa before returning to
civilisation.
Nearby
attractions include the Rabbit Proof Fence and Wubin Rock - the
latter making a good camping location also.
The
campground has NO facilities - just loads of open area - so its
good for carvans etc. It is a little off the road and
provides a quiet sleeping location. There is plenty of wood about
so why night stoke up the fire, toast some marshmallows and enjoy
the stars! |
