This cache has been archived.

foon: I checked GZ today after shell1fish couldn't find the cache. Sure enough, the cache is missing. [:(] After 5 years, I think it's time to retire this one and free up the area for new caches. For those of you watching this listing that haven't solved the puzzle, you can get the answers at the official site for California legislative information.

The numbers of the highways described in the puzzle are: 33, 51, 39, and 7; 118, 22, 56, and 8.

Many thanks to all of you who have solved this puzzle and found the cache. [^]

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates; it is about a mile and half away. The container is a micro, measuring about 3/4" x 1/2" x 1/2". It only has room for a log. You might want to bring tweezers. Please, no stickers on the log.

TroupB-B and I have been geocaching together for 11 months, we've each found approximately 290 caches, and her birthday is less than 3 months away. Accordingly, I felt it was time to hide a cache in her honor. Don't start working on this puzzle yet; those previous 3 numbers have absolutely nothing to do with this puzzle! This honoree cache is for everybody to find; TroupB-B is not required to be First To Find. However, she should be ashamed of herself if she's not FTF!

I thought about her favorite places, hobbies, etc. trying to come up with a clever location to hide this Cache for TroupB-B. TroupB-B and her husband, Mr. TroupB-B, love El Sombrero #2 restaurant. She loves Target. She goes to her favorite hairdresser, Susie. Mr. and Mrs. TroupB-B enjoy hanging out with their two geo-puppies, Peter (Pete-sa Pie) and Chip (Chip for Brains). Where would be an appropriate place to hide this Cache for TroupB-B?

TroupB-B also loves to travel and explore new places, so I decided to begin my search by venturing around California, sticking to the California State Highways so I wouldn't get lost.

I started out by heading North towards Ventura. The first leg of my quest took me to the Emma Wood State Beach off US Highway 101 near Ventura. The first part of the road I explored goes northbound until it hits State Route 150. I didn't see any good hiding places along this road.

Next, I went to Sacramento. I started looking on an unsigned State Route that goes from US Highway 50 in Sacramento to Interstate 80 east of Sacramento. One of the local folks argued that the particular road I was on was the eastern leg of Business Loop Interstate 80. Regardless of what this road is called, I saw a few possible hiding spots, but I was already too far away from home. So, I headed back down toward Los Angeles.

I found an interesting road that goes from State Route 1 near Huntington Beach to State Route 72 in La Habra via Beach Boulevard. This was only the first part of a road I could have explored, but since there wasn't much there, I linked another stretch of road to this particular segment of my search. I went from the northerly boundary of the Federal Port of entry near Calexico to Interstate 8 near El Centro. I got some good ideas today but was tired from all this driving and put an end to the northerly search. The Cache for TroupB-B needs to have a westerly component. With this new realization, I found a motel and spent the night.

In the morning, I resumed my search, heading West. Well, maybe it wasn't exactly West, but it will have to suffice for the purposes of this Cache for TroupB-B. My first westerly item of interest was a road that began at State Route 126 near Saticoy and went to Interstate 210 near San Fernando. My apologies to the locals, but this was a pretty boring stretch of road, and it didn't inspire any good ideas, so I headed back toward familiar territory - near where I play softball every Friday night in Long Beach.

My next search was on a road beginning at State Route 1 near Long Beach that headed to Interstate 405. Now, I was getting somewhere! I like this area, and I was accumulating lots of good ideas. Just in case, I thought I'd try a couple more roads.

I continued down the coast and explored a road which begins near Interstate 5 north of La Jolla and heads toward State Route 67. There wasn't really enough road to do much of a search, so I complemented this particular expedition with a nearby road that starts at Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and heads to Route 5 in San Diego. I found some interesting possibilities for hiding the Cache for TroupB-B.

I became tired of driving all over the California State Highway System, but I gathered some good ideas during my trip. I have enough information to pick a good hiding place for this cache. And, so do you. You should be able to find this cache without putting too many miles on your car. Have fun, beware of muggles, and please replace the cache how you found it so the next person will be able to enjoy the quest.
