Geocache Description:

This cache was originally hidden by Mr.Dewdrop and then adopted by Bob Smith. It has now been adopted by Milfmog.

Thames Path - Bourne End Bridge

Bourne End's original location is somewhat different to today's established village centre, perhaps a half a mile downstream of the River Thames. The name refers to the end of the river (bourne being an Old English term for 'river'), and it would be the mouth of the River Wye that this is derived from. Until the nineteenth century however, it was noted that the name had been corrupted to "Bone End" through local mispronunciation, and thence on official maps and documents; in 1858, the vicar of Wooburn successfully reversed this, and the corrected name remains in use today.

Bourne End Bridge

It is in Bourne End that the Thames Path crosses the river once again, continuing its journey on the south bank as it meanders down towards Maidenhead.  A footway runs alongside the railway line, across the bridge.

The bridge used to be a rusty old mare. However, during 2013 considerable renovation work was done, including renewing all the rivets and replacing or beefing up many sections of the steel before applying a shiny new coat of dark green paint.  Even so, if you stand in the middle and wait for a train to pass;  the whole bridge vibrates and it's pretty scarey!  Added to that, train drivers seem to like having a bit of fun when crossing by sounding their horns... you have been warned!

Back to the cache...THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE ABOVE COORDINATES!

A magnetic micro on an iron bridge, could be a nightmare eh?

To make life easier visit the published coordinates above, a short way down river from the bridge.

Line up the 2 triangles and look across the river.  What is the greatest number of white posts can you see in a single property?
