Ridderspranget
Ridderspranget er et juv i elva Sjoa, kjent fra sagnlitteraturen.
Sagnet handler om ridderen Sigvat på Kvie i Valdres, som på 1300-Tallet en gang røvet ei jente fra ridderen Iva Gjæsting på Sandbu i Vågå.
Han Iva var den mektigeste i Gudbrandsdalen på den tida, mellom han og Sigvat var det uvennskap.
Jenta vart kalla Skårvangs-sola fordi ho var så vakker.
Ho var glad i Sigvat og ville ikke gifte seg med Iva. Sigvat røvet jenta, sette garden Sandbu i brann og drog innover Sjodalen.
Iva tok opp jakten med følge sitt og tok igjen Kvieridderen ved elvejuvet.
Sigvat tok jenta under armen og hoppet over.
Våpensveinen hans hoppet etter, men da snudde Sigvat seg og dyttet han ned i fossen.
Han Iva Gjæsling turte ikke gå etter da han Sigvat sto på andre siden klar til å sende alle i fossen.

Ridderspranget “Riders Leap”
Ridderspranget is a gorge in the river Sjoa, and is well known in legend.
The story tells of the knight Sigvat of kvie in Valdres, who in the 1300s stole a girl from the knight Iva Gjæsling at Sandbu in Vågå.
Iva was the most powerful man in Gudbrandsdalen at that time, and he and Sigvat were enemies.
The girl was called Skårvangs-sole (“Skårvang-sun”) because she was so beautiful.
The girl loved Sigvat and did not want to marry Iva. Sigvat rescued the girl, set fire to the Sandbu farm, and then headed off up Sjodalen. Iva took up the chase with his men and caught up with Sigvat at the river gorge. Sigvat took the girl up into his arms and jumped the gorge. His page followed, but Sigvat turned and pushed him down into the waterfall. Iva did not dare to follow whilst Sigvat stood on the other side prepared to push everybody into the waterfall.
The gorge has been called Ridderspranget “Riders Leap” from that day to this.
The cache area can have many mugglers at times.
