Delyle Ridge Lookout
We were surprised there was not one here already... Access to
Delyle Ridge is made quickest by driving up Dry creek road #203
from the South River Road out of Clark Fork. Once on top turn onto
road #203E. This Road comes to an end at the beginning of the trail
#122. The trail is about 2 miles long and pretty well shaded from
the sun most of the hike. The hardest section of the hike is the
last 1/4 of mile as you take several switchbacks, or for the
adventurers there is a trail straight up to the lookout. Elevation
is 4442 by my GPS although website says 4394. The Rating on this
cache is based on my years of being short legged and rounder than
most. About the Lookout: This L-4 cab, built in 1935, has been
abandoned since the 1950's. It was reportedly sold to an individual
several years ago; the windows were removed, and somehow it still
stands. It was used several years ago as a site for hacking
falcons. The view is spectacular overlooking the Clark Fork River
valley. Bring water as there is none entire trip. Ammo can cache is
at the lookout. Contents: Hand Lotion, Pocket Tissues, Wet Wipes,
Crazy Putty, Light-up Toy, Pink Flamingo cup, Hand Made Glass Dice,
Hand Quilted "Welcome", Bug Spray.
