Geocache Description:

A leisurely stroll (mostly on paths) around Victoria Park in the West End of Glasgow

N 055 52.677   W 004 19.947

These co-ords start you at the gates of Victoria Park on Victoria Park Drive North. Parking is allowed on all the adjacent streets. This can be a quick cache (about 1hr.) or if you have children you can make a day of it as there are plenty of activities available.

At the entrance:

How many necklaces can you see on the pillars? = A
What date was the park opened? = B88C
Subtract B from C = D

Just inside the gates on your left-hand side you will find a map of the park (and the Parks Code) which may be of some use.

What is the speed limit for authorised vehicles? = E mph
What is the freezing temperature of water? = F °C

The next waypoint is at: N 0EE EA. DBF   W 004 AF. FCA

Why not start by taking a stroll down the tree lined avenue past the tennis courts and basketball courts turning right at the bottom. Here you will find the memorial to SS Daphne.

What year did it sink? = G88H

Now head towards the pond and the lady with the wings on her back and the world at her feet.
You will find her at: N 055 EA. EHG   W004 B9. 9BF

On the way there watch out for the penguins, the bear and the big green frog. Fortunately they can’t get out. The kids might want to stop at the play area now.

How many chutes in the play area? = J

Once at the statue walk towards the pond, can you see the time? It looks like 10.33 but is that a.m. or p.m.? Does it matter? It is right twice a day. Go and have a look at the clock and enjoy the swans and other varieties of bird life, wild fowl on the way. Depending on the time of year there are a lot of nests in this area.

Where was the clock made? (A=1 B=2 etc.) first letter of name = K
How many faces does it have = L

Depending on the time of year you could walk round the flower beds. From the clock, continue walking around the pond until you come to: N055 EJ.L9L   W004 G9.9KG

This is where a large area of the park was used up to accommodate the road you now see that leads to the Clyde tunnel. If you look across the road to the right and beside the 40 MPH signs you will see the old boundary fence of the park. You may also see the large chimney, this was attached to Whiteinch public baths where you could swim, have a bath (at a time when not everybody had a bath in their homes) and wash clothes in the “steamie” it is closed at present. If you look to your left you will see Whiteinch Public School.

What year was it built? = 1M1N

We are going to continue west parallel to the road towards the Fossil Grove at: N055 52.DFG   W004 20.2DG

Depending what time you get here you could have a look in and see the fossils. It is free. Now you may feel like a seat, why not sit on Isa’s bench, it is the highest and admire the flower beds again depending on time of year.

When did Isa die? = 199Q

How many iron barley sugar twist columns can you see at the front of the fossil grove? = P

If you are rested we are now going to the most westerly side of the park to: N055 N2.DNP   W004 20.QQN

Can you see the red sandstone building called Victoria View? You will have to cross the road.

What is the number of the building? = RS

Now head towards the North West corner of the park where you will find a manhole cover at: N055 5R. DMS   W004 RF. RPD

There is a fax number on the manhole cover = 44TV33W40201

This co-ord will lead to the small cache at: N055 NW.VTT   W004 WF.TNW
