Geocache Description:

Miller Springs Nature Area near the Lake Belton Dam.

Oh, Dam! Constructed in 1954 by the Army Corps of Engineers, the Belton Lake Dam sought to protect the surrounding communities from the sometimes violent flooding of the Leon River. Control of the river was established at a cost of several communities losing their lands when part of the Tennessee Valley was deluged with the water that the dam held back. In memory of those communities which now reside on the bottom of Belton lake, this cache will take you from the top of the spillway to the bottom of tennessee Valley (the dry side!).
The posted coordinates will take you to the redirector with a set of coordinates to final. At the final, you seek an ammo can loaded with some tools (I am the Tool_Man after all!), and a scratch ticket for the FTF. Tree cover at both the redirect and the final mess with the sat signal, so use your geo sense.
Parking is available at N31 06.975 W097 28.161 (Miller Springs), and will put you in position to complete other caches that are in the area.
When parking at suggested coordinates and staying on the trails, the total walking distance is about 2 miles. You can cut some of the distance by bushwacking, but I don't recommend it, stick to the trails and enjoy the beauty of the area. There is some PI and briar close to the final. I have rated the overall difficulty and terrain a 3 because of the distance and the fact that after walking down into the valley you have to walk back up and out. Bring water because you will need it!
On the way to the cache be sure to stop by N 31° 06.644 W 097° 28.113 and learn the story of Tennessee Valley. And, check out Waymarking.com for any waymarks in the area.
This is my first cache, I waited untill I had at least 100 finds under by belt before hiding one, so please let me know if any changes are needed, including difficulty.
Thanks for looking!
