ModelCitizen: I have been in contact with zoo management, and it has been decided that the geocache should be removed and not replaced inside the zoo property.
Several people have broken into the zoo after hours within the last year. Zoo management tells me that at least one of the people that was found inside the zoo after hours was a geocacher hunting the cache. I guess geocachers are sometimes the sport's own worst enemy. The zoo staff is very concerned that having a geocache on the grounds encourages people to break in and may expose them to danger.
This cache had a pretty good long run (almost nine years), but it is time for it to be archived now. I may try to relocate the original container in the park outside the zoo, but it will not be a multi-cache that requires cachers to visit different locations in the zoo to find the coordinates for the final cache container. That would once again tempt cachers to climb the fence after hours.
