Geocache Description:

This is the site of part of the Oldest Federal Road in the Northwest. It ran from Fort Walla Walla to Puget Sound, and was to help the Emigrant Wagons complete their journeys to the West Coast. The first wagons crossed the Cascades and reached Puget Sound on October 9th, 1853.

Be sure to take a look at the nearby restored paddle wheel from a steamboat that plied these waters many years ago. More information,(including photos) on the boat that this came from, as well as other historical exhibits from this area is available from the East Benton COunty Historical Museum in Kennewick, WA.

Apparently this road also followed the Yakima River, according to an informational Kiosk in the Benton County Park/Campground at Horn Rapids Dam. History Buffs might want to check out the Kiosk there, and then stroll down towards the river to look for No Disappointment Cache GC2NFFH, this one along the Yakima River. No Disappointment Cache GC2NFFH

Update 8-2014, I have upped the difficulty on this one, since it is no longer a 1 in that category.
