Geocache Description:

Dalheim i Tromsdalen.

Her bodde samene på sommerstid og hadde reinflokken i området her.

This is an old sami settlement from the 1800 era. Here they lived in the summertime and had their reindeer herd around in this area. Later they made it more permanent and had cows and sheep in addition to the reindeer. The reindeer and the nomadic sami in Dalheim was a attraction for the foreign touristships in the 19th century. The road from the dock on Nesset up to the reindeer show was built in 1912, and the road further to Djupdalen was built in 1916. Around 1914 Joakim Nordberg built the sport- and touristhotel beside a sami settlement in Dalheim. At Dalheim hikers could buy waffle, black currant limonade, "rømmekolle" (like a sweet sour cream) and milk. This hotel was closed in 1957 and the beautiful houses was burnt down in the 70th. It is the ruins of those houses you see around here. Remember to bring you own pen or pencil to write with.
