This cache is an ammo box located at the top of French Mountain on the East shore of Lake George near the Top of the World Resort and Farm House Restaurant.
For this cache, please park at these coordinates: N 43 25.758, W 073 40.181. The cache is located .5 miles from the parking area within 150 feet from the end of a gradually sloping trail. No need to bushwhack - just choose the trail to the left of the "No Trespassing" sign (which cachers can ignore). No motorized vehicles are allowed on the trail.
On your way home, be sure to check out the magnificent view from the Golf Course and Restaurant - you'll see the mountains in Vermont to the East and Lake George stretching northward.
The history of French Mountain is as impressive as its vistas. Tribes of Algonquin and Iroquois Indians once lived around this mountain and battles of the Colonial and Revolutionary Wars as well as the War of 1812 were fought in its shadow. Scottish settlers settled on French Mountain in the mid 1800s and in the early 1900s, Charles Tuttle established the Top of the World resort which became a haven for the wealthy and politically influential. In its glory days the resort had a golf course, tennis, riding stables and hiking trails. Today the Feeney family is working to restore this Adirondack resort to its former beauty.
