Old Hood Highway Radial Traditional Cache

This one is all about the location. You will love this oasis in the hot summertime. Bring a camera and hiking boots or sturdy shoes--a walking stick wouldn't hurt.
The container is an ammo can with a log page in a visually obvious spot. I had a tough time with satellites (45 FTE), but once you get there you'll have no problem locating the hiding spot. This cache leads you to a beautiful hidden place below the old Mount Hood Highway.
If you park at N 45° 18.676 W 121° 48.086 and walk up the trail to the Old Highway you have a chance to grab a couple of other caches in this amazing piece of American history. (You may need to display a Forest Permit, and you can pick them up at the Thriftway in Welches or at the Forest visitor center during operational hours.)
Start your historic reading at N45º18.638 W121º 48.086 and take some time to explore.
The cache will take you to a great spot--I don't want to spoil the surprise! If you start your walk down hill near N45º18.551 W121º 48.672 you will be right on track. Please stick to the rough trail, and practice CITO.
This is an area with little foot traffic, and I beg that you be careful how much impact your hike has on the terrain. You may want to keep the little ones close for this specific hike. Also, this cache may be really tough in the winter, as snow and rain will impede your travels.

(Update 10/17/06: Cache is an ammo can, and I would say that even after a few days of rain the path was rather easy to navigate. Just watch your step!0
