Geocache Description:

There is a lot of information about the past mining activities at Meldon on notice boards in the area and whilst one mine is still working, there are the remains of other closed mines.
This cache is near some swimming holes created by damming the Red-a-ven Brook with small stones. Cooling off here in summer can be lovely. See if you can see any of the little trout in the stream - but be quiet, they are very shy.
You might have to beware muggles in summer but that will be an extra test of your caching skills. The cache is a pill pot with only a log. It might hold small swaps or geocoins.

(If you want to make a walk of it, can I suggest you take the following route. Park at the Meldon Dam car park - where there are toilets. Walk over the dam and turn left down the steps. Go downstream to 'Viaduct View'. Then turn up the Red-a-Ven Brook valley and follow the stream uphill to 'Get Your Head Down' and 'Lido-Yes Tor'. Continue up, joining the military track before turning left on the col to 'West Mill Tor'. Reverse your course and follow the elephant track up 'Yes Tor', 'High Willhays' and on to 'Fordsland Ledge'. Drop down to 'Black Tor' - following animal tracks through the featherbed is best. If you want to take in 'Shelstone Tor' as well, drop straight down to the river and then up 100 m before rising slowly up animal tracks to Shelstone. Then back to Meldon. Alternatively go from Black Tor to the track bend at N50 41.809 W004 01.568 and then curl around Longstone Hill back to the dam. Hope you enjoy the walk and the caches.)
