- ADOPT THIS CACHE - I am moving out of state soon and will no longer be able to maintain this cache. A log only cache. Bring your own writing utensil - pencils may be best. NO STICKERS PLEASE. Difficulty rating based on high muggle factor and cache design. The rating could be higher, but I have done something to help you when you get there. I would love to see geocachers share photos here of their favorite places!! PLEASE DO NOT TRESPASS IN TO SPRINKLER HEADS.
Long Beach has had its ups and downs. But today it thrives with the Rainbow Harbor attractions, the Pike entertainment center, Shorline Village, The Aquarium of the Pacific, Pine Avenue Entertainment, Aqualink boat/bus, boats to Catalina Island and the LB Convention Center. See http://www.longbeach.gov/visitors/default.asp
Facts interesting to me:
The Pike is named and themed after an amusement park that used to be on the same site -- closed in the 70s. The entire area is on landfill and the steep hill on Ocean Boulevard used to be the bluffs on the beach. Most of the area was enclosed by a half-circle pier that went out in to the ocean and returned back to the shore in a different area. See http://www.millikanalumni.com/Pike/RainebowEmailStories.html
Rainbow harbor is associated to the Rainbow Pier that used to be where the convention center is.
