An easy walk of only about 2 minutes through some light scrub and and it may take up to ten minutes to locate the cache
I have always known this location to be called the convicts' hole. I use to play around here when I was a child. The story that I was told about it was that it was dug out of the stone by convicts. It may have been used to store the very valuable supplies or maybe the odd naughty convict that was likely to escape into the vast surrounding bushland. I would say that it was used at a time when the first road was constructed through the mountains to the west.
I have tried to find some more information on this "convicts' hole" but haven't had any luck. If you know anything that we could share with future visitors to this site the information would be well appreciated.
Rick, aka The Old Sod has supplied us with some information written by John Merriman who is a Local Studies Librarian at the Blue Mountains City Library. I have placed a copy in the cache. It explains in detail what the hole actually is. Thanks Rick and John.
It is an easy walk of only a few minutes from the nearest road but the site can be accessed on various routes from a number of different directions.
